“Configurations of Time”, talk at Jan van Eyck Academie
On 10 April 2025, I presented Configurations of Time at the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht as part of Situated Institutions, Relational Practices, Liminal Studios, the fifth edition of the Urgency Intensive.
Drawing on thinkers such as Carlo Rovelli and María Puig de la Bellacasa, my presentation introduced concepts including space-time, care-time, and soil-time, proposing a process-oriented and ethical approach to artist residencies. Through storytelling and firsthand insights, I reflected on what residencies activate beyond the visible and the quantifiable, in dialogue with the contributions of other speakers.
The Urgency Intensive is a multi-day programme exploring the civic role and agency of artistic, curatorial, and institutional practices in the context of growing societal divides, diminishing arts funding, and escalating socio-environmental crises. Across the programme, practices and processes were discussed through the lenses of situatedness, relationality, and liminality, questioning established binaries such as interior/exterior, organisation/public, and process/presentation. The programme was curated by Bruno Alves de Almeida.
