Ripopolare, rigenerare, risiedere Il ruolo delle residenze artistiche”, November,  9 – 10, 2024 Latronico (PT), Italy

“Ripopolare, rigenerare, risiedere Il ruolo delle residenze artistiche” [Repopulation, Regeneration, and Residence: The Role of Artistic Residencies] is a two-day conference jointly promoted by STARE – the Italian Artistic Residencies Association, the Vincenzo De Luca Cultural Association (APS), and the Municipal Administration of Latronico. The conference examined the role and practices of artistic residencies in rural and inner areas, focusing on their current conditions and potential sustainable futures. Through case-study presentations, debates, and a roundtable discussion, the programme brought together local administrators, residency coordinators, researchers, and representatives of national associations.

The discussions explored both the potentials and the criticalities of residency programmes, particularly in relation to the production of meaningful and lasting cultural practices, their ability to foster long-term relationships with the territories in which they operate, and their structural dependence on short-term funding cycles.

On this occasion, I was invited to present the outcomes of L’Utopia presente, the residency module I curated for UNIDEE – University of Ideas (October 17–20, 2024).
